I may have written about this before but to be honest I have found it such a help I don’t mind. About 18 months or so ago Jane and I started lighting a candle and simultaneously say “Emmanuel – God with us”. The flames presence in the room then serves as physical reminder of God’s promise in Joshua never to leave nor forsake us. It’s been an amazing comfort and encouragement through difficult and/or frustrating times. I know that Protestants particularly with my background aren’t meant to be into symbolism but hey my God’s bigger than that box!
