Watch out Ballynahinch - Traffic wardens privatised from 2006!
Traffic wardens in Northern Ireland are to be privatised from 2006, NIO minister John Spellar has said. Current wardens, deployed by the Police Service, will be withdrawn from enforcing on-street parking regulations to focus on areas such as road safety. The government will change the law to allow the use of clamps, and offences will be civil not criminal. This has led to fears that clamping will dramatically increase.
You heard it first here folks no more parking on double yellows outside Stevie’s Chinese on a Saturday night, and similarly those double parkers outside Xtravision may watch out. In just over a years time you’ll be nipping into the Progressive Building Society to put a tenner in your savings account to return to find your car clamped by an over zealous jobs worth looking £80 to unclamp it!! Very pleasant!
